Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 26, 2026

1. Information We Don't Collect

PowerSync does NOT:

• Store your energy usage data on our servers
• Track your location
• Collect analytics about your app usage
• Share your data with third parties for advertising
• Access your contacts, photos, or other personal data

2. Information Stored Locally

The following information is stored on your device and/or your Home Assistant instance:

2.1 Connection Credentials

• Home Assistant URL and Long-Lived Access Token (stored in device keychain)
• IP addresses of your local energy hardware
• API tokens for Amber Electric (stored in Home Assistant)
• Authentication tokens for energy hardware (stored in Home Assistant)

2.2 Configuration Settings

• Your price thresholds and automation preferences
• Notification settings
• Hardware configuration options

2.3 Cached Data

• Recent energy prices (for offline display)
• Recent system status (for widgets and quick access)

2.4 Push Notification Token

• Your Expo Push Token is stored in Home Assistant to enable push notifications
• This token is sent to Expo's servers when delivering notifications (see section 3.4)

This data stays within your control (your device and your Home Assistant instance) except when communicating with third-party services described in section 3.

3. Third-Party Services

3.1 Home Assistant

PowerSync operates as a Home Assistant custom integration. All energy data, credentials, and configuration are stored on your Home Assistant instance. The mobile app connects to your Home Assistant server to display data and send commands.

3.2 Amber Electric

When you connect your Amber Electric account, Home Assistant communicates directly with Amber Electric's servers to retrieve your current and forecast electricity prices. We do not act as an intermediary or store this data on our servers.

3.3 Local Hardware Communication

Home Assistant communicates with your energy hardware (Tesla Powerwall, inverters, etc.) over your local network. This communication stays within your home network and does not pass through any external servers we control.

3.4 Tesla (Powerwall Users)

For Tesla Powerwall users, PowerSync supports multiple connection methods:

• Local TEDAPI: Direct connection to your Powerwall Gateway on your local network for real-time control and monitoring.
• Tesla Fleet API (optional): Cloud-based connection to Tesla's servers for additional features like individual battery health data. Requires Tesla account authentication.
• Teslemetry (optional): Third-party cloud service that provides Tesla Fleet API access. If used, your data passes through Teslemetry's servers.

You choose which connection methods to enable. Local-only operation is fully supported.

3.5 Push Notifications (Expo)

The mobile app uses Expo Push Notifications to deliver alerts (e.g., price spikes, forecast discrepancies). When notifications are sent:

• Your device's push token is stored in Home Assistant
• Notification content (including price data) passes through Expo's servers to reach your device
• Expo may retain notification metadata according to their privacy policy

4. Data Security

• All credentials are stored in your device's secure keychain
• Communication with Amber Electric uses HTTPS encryption
• Local network communication uses the security provided by your hardware

5. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

6. Your Rights

Since your data is stored on your device:

• Access: You can view all stored data in the App settings
• Deletion: Uninstalling the App removes all stored data
• Portability: You can export your configuration from the App

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App.
